Peterson Software Systems
Our story began in the late 1980's. Those were the days before Windows became the predominate operating system and most computers ran on basic DOS and Unix. I learned Basic on a Timex-Sinclair home computer that I still have.
I had been in Law Enforcement for about 5 years at that time and left a Police Department that did not have any type of computerization and joined a Department that in the beginning stages of using computers to assist the Police Officers. All Officers at this Department were issued a Tandy TRS-80 laptop computer and the "main frame" was a small Unix based server. The Tandy laptops were used to write Police reports and they would only hold about 2 reports before you had to download the reports using a modem. Then you had to clear out the memory to get ready for your next report. Certain personnel had access to desktop computers that could access the server and you could basically just look up, read and print reports. The capabilities of the software program used for the reporting system was based on an old DOS based program called File Pro Plus.
I happened to know one of the developers of this program and from him I learned how to make my own programs. I then began to make programs that would assist me in my duties as a Detective and also benefit the other Officers. I found that I really enjoyed doing creating software programs and to put a name on the code that I wrote I used my last name and named the code as being built by Peterson Software Systems.
I quickly realized that the File Pro Plus program that was used at the time had very limited capabilities and I then devoted all my spare time to learn to program in the "C" language. A few years later after Windows 95 was introduced I happened upon the Microsoft Visual Studio 6 Software Suite and found Visual Basic 6. I immediately fell in love with VB6 as it was basically easy to learn and you could actually make programs that looked like the other commercially available programs being made at the time. I have never looked back and continue to use VB6. Despite the best efforts of Microsoft to get users to switch to VB.net, VB6 is still the most widely used programming language in the world
Over the years I learned how to make my own custom controls in VB6 that had capabilities far beyond anything offered by Microsoft and from these efforts our Flagship Program called PSS Ultimate Suite 2010 was born. All custom made software programs made by us are built using the Ultimate Suite as the backbone.
After retiring in 2006 with about 21 years of Law Enforcement experience I decided to officially try and market my programs. In 2008 Peterson Software Systems, Inc., became an official Corporation licensed by the State of Florida. Peterson Software Systems also holds Business Licenses from Polk County, Florida and from the City of Auburndale, Florida.
